warming. Global warming is one of the most serious
challenges facing us today. To protect the health and
economic well being of current and future generations, we
must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by using
the technology, know-how, and practical solutions already at
our disposal. What causes Global warming and what are the
effects?
Global warming is caused by the build-up of man-made gases
in the atmosphere that trap the suns heat, causing changes
in weather patterns on a global scale. The effects include
changes in rainfall patterns, sea level rise, potential
droughts, habitat loss, and heat stress. The greenhouse
gases of most concern are carbon dioxide, methane, and
nitrous oxides. If these gases in our atmosphere double, the
earth could warm up by 1.5 to 4.5 degrees by the year 2050,
with changes in global precipitation having the greatest
consequences.
The direct manifestations of a widespread and long-term
trend toward warmer global temperatures will increase Heat
waves and periods of unusually warm weather, Glaciers
melting, Ocean warming, sea level rise with coastal
flooding, Arctic and Antarctic warming. Events that
foreshadow the types of impacts likely to become more
frequent and widespread with continued warming, is without
doubt to cause Spreading of disease, Plant and animal range
shifts and population changes, Downpours, heavy snowfalls,
flooding, Earlier spring arrival, Coral reef bleaching,
Droughts and fires.
These are just some of the problems we will encounter if
nothing is done about global warming. We must all take this
issue seriously and take action now to amend what was caused
